Western Digital 640GB AACS Caviar Green

As hard drive capacities increase, the power required to run those drives increases as well. WD Caviar Green drives make it possible for energy-conscious customers to build systems with higher capacities and the right balance of system performance, ensured reliability, and energy conservation.

Reduced power consumption - WD has reduced power consumption by up to 40 percent compared to standard desktop drives with the combination of WD's IntelliSeek , IntelliPark , and IntelliPower technologies.

Helps enable eco-friendly PCs - WD Caviar Green drives yield an average drive power savings of 4-5 watts over standard desktop drives making it possible for our energy-conscious customers to build systems with higher capacities and the right balance of system performance, ensured reliability, and energy conservation. This power savings equates to reducing CO2 emission by up to 13.8 kilograms per drive per year - the equivalent of taking a car off the road for 3 days each year*. By using environmentally-conscious PCs with our WD Caviar Green drives on board, large organizations with many desktop computers can minimize their carbon footprint and save real money on electricity costs.

Assumes that a car produces 1.60 CO2 pounds per Kwatt/hours/year. Calculation of automobile emissions depends on the car's g/km emission levels and km/year of driving.

Cool and Quiet - GreenPower technology yields lower operating temperatures for increased reliability and low acoustics for ultra-quiet PCs and external drives.

Perfect for external drives - External drive manufacturers can eliminate the need for a fan in a high-capacity product with a WD Caviar Green drive, the coolest and quietest in its class. External drives with WD Caviar Green drives on board can save up to $14.00 per year in electricity costs. See our power savings chart for details.

IntelliPower - A fine-tuned balance of spin speed, transfer rate and caching algorithms designed to deliver both significant power savings and solid performance. Additionally, WD Caviar Green drives consume less current during startup allowing lower peak loads on systems as they are booted.

IntelliSeek - Calculates optimum seek speeds to lower power consumption, noise and vibration. View demo >

IntelliPark - Delivers lower power consumption by automatically unloading the heads during idle to reduce aerodynamic drag.

Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) - Employs PMR technology to achieve even greater areal density.

StableTrac - The motor shaft is secured at both ends to reduce system-induced vibration and stabilize platters for accurate tracking, during read and write operations. (750 GB and 1 TB only)

Horrific support

Reviewed By: BillITPro on 7/9/2009

Tech Level: high - Ownership: more than 1 year

Pros: Worked for a little over 2 years

Cons: Failed and repeatedly I have tried to get in touch with them (Including faxing in the form over two weeks ago) and yet I hear nothing from them.

Other Thoughts: Better support would make them a more trustworthy company. I will never purchase their memory again for myself or any of my customers.

Pros: This fan is amazing... Its takes up a bit of space in your case, but when its running, make sure you have your PC secured, because this thing is crazy! (Don't really need to secure your PC) I have it in a closet w/ all my cables running out to my desk, so, the noise does not affect me... It does however affect the temp of my computer, which I am not sure the # off the top of my head, but its on the very low side of the spectrum.

Cons: Is noisy, but, you can adjust the speed or if you have it enclosed somewhere, not an issue...

Pros: The physical size, resolution, and dot pitch are a great mix -- the 1980x1200 provides good real-estate, while the size, clarity, and brightness make everything easy to see.
Size is big but doesn't dominate desk like using an HDTV does. If eyes are 2 ft or more back from screen you can see everything without shifting your head. It is a TN panel, but it is not very sensitive to reasonable shifting position changing brightness and even small text is pretty crisp.
No dead pixels in my unit, and build quality is good.
Yes it is ridiculously bright out of box, but this is easy to turn down, and nice to have in reserve on sunny days if you don't want to pull the blinds.

Cons: There could be better contrast, color uniformity, and adjustability, but that would be more money. I don't notice when using.
Some may find lack of inputs or speakers a problem, but not if you're using as a dedicated computer monitor.

XFX XFX News Room

Fast, tons of USB & SATA ports, very cool running under heavy load. Have not started OC process yet, so we will see. Fast right out of the box. DDR3 Dual channel RAM at 2000 and no issues. Good documentation included. Setup and configuration was a breeze!

Cons: Audio ports failed. Opened support ticket with XFX customer support and this is still an ongoing matter (3 days and counting). Since audio is the only problem..so far..I just disabled the onboard and installed a SB XFi and it works flawlessly. Proves the saying that any problem can be fixed with the mere application of $$.
